KABOBATHON: The Origin Story

The Beginning

In 1995 two grade school buddies got their families together for a barbeque on July 4th.  Little did they know the tradition was about to begin...

Joe asked "what can we bring?", Dave said "something for the grill".

When Joe, Debbie, and Little Joey showed up Joe had a cooler full of kabobs.  Dave and Lisa had also made Kabobs, even little Rachael helped out... great minds think alike.  Grilling and eating all day was followed by watching the fireworks at night... Back at the house as the night was winding down, after too many beers, Dave and Joe continued grilling the endless supply of kabobs... Dave turned to Joe and said "ya know, this is like a KABOBATHON"  At that moment KABOBATHON was born.....

A Growing Phenomenon

Although the date would change, KABOBATHON became an annual event which has grown through the years.  Other than the pandemic years KABOBATHON has been an annual summer event [see disclaimer below].  Like other cultural events [the Super Bowl, the Olympics, World Cup, Groundhogs Day] it has grown in size and scope.  Today the KABOBATHON Foundation supports a Hall Of Fame, the KABOBATHON Planning Committee and of course the coveted "Golden Kabobie" awards selection panel.

Disclaimer:  Ok, who are we kidding.....even during the pandemic dedicated kabobers around the world were still enjoying kabobs.  We had just been driven underground... True kabobaholics couldn't gather en masse with other lovers of food on a stick Enjoying tasty treats with fellow kabobers... however there were reports of friends and families gathering together to hoist a skewer or 2.  Society shunned mass get togethers but these renegades still managed to celebrate what they knew to be true.  KABOBS. ARE. AWESOME.

But Seriously

All jokes asides, KABOBATHON is really an opportunity to get together with old friends, meet new ones, and make unique memories. Year after year we cannot believe the kabobs everyone comes up with. As we say, if you can put it on a stick, it can be a kabob. KABOBATHON is a time to enjoy good food and drinks, good people, and celebrate with the people around you. Whether its your first time joining us, or if you’re a seasoned kabob veteran, remember, “it ain’t gonna be fun if you’re not there!” We look forward to seeing you all at KABOBATHON 2023!
